Russia claims to capture another city in eastern Ukraine. In a statement on Sunday (September 8), the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the liberation of the city of Novorodivka. They also reported an advance on the strategic town of Porovsk, which is close to the city. Russian media TRT World reported this news in a report.

Russian forces have "liberated the settlement of Novorodivka" in Donetsk, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. It is located about 20 km from Pokrovsk city.

According to officials, the city had more than 14,000 residents before Russia's all-out invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

Moscow has made considerable progress in the region this summer. At the same time, Russian troops are on the way to occupy this strategic city.

Despite Kiev's surprise attack on Kursk region on August 6, Russian troops are steadily occupying Donetsk settlements.

Russian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that the main objective of the 30-month-long war was to seize Ukraine's Donbas region. Donetsk also belongs to this region. He also said that Ukraine's attack on Kursk made achieving this goal easier.
