The world's oldest person, Maria Brañas Morera, has died at the age of 117.

He died in Spain on Tuesday (August 20), his family said. Maria Branias has left us, her family wrote in X. As per his wishes he died peacefully, in a painless sleep. We will always remember his advice, his greatness.

Maria was born in the United States. Maria Branyas had been staying at the Santa Maria del Tura Nursing Home in the northeastern Spanish town of Olot for two decades.


"Don't cry for me," she said in a post on Tuesday. I don't like crying. By all means do not feel pain for me. Wherever I go, I will be happy. Speaking on X-A (formerly Twitter) run on his behalf.

In January 2023, Guinness World Records officially recognized Maria Branias as the world's oldest person.
