Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became an independent candidate in the upcoming US presidential election. But on Friday (August 23) he announced to withdraw from the election. He also supported the candidate of the Republican Party, Donald Trump. But for a long time, Kennedy Jr. was active in the politics of the Democratic Party. The British media reported the news.
Kennedy Jr., 70, has spent most of his political life in the Democratic Party. He is a member of the politically influential Kennedy family in the United States. His father was US Senator Robert F. Kennedy and his uncle was former President John F. Kennedy.
He announced his support for Trump at a press conference in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday. Said, 'Party policies forced him to leave the party and support Trump.'
A few hours later, Kennedy Jr. joined Trump's campaign rally in Arizona.
Trump welcomed Kennedy Jr. to the rally stage in Glendale, calling the event "unprecedented" and an act of "intelligence". 'His support will inspire millions of Americans and bring to the fore issues that have long been ignored in this country.'
Before welcoming Kennedy Jr., Trump promised to release all documents related to the 1963 assassination of then-President Kennedy.
However, Kennedy Jr.'s sister, Kerry Kennedy, was very angry at Trump's support. "His (Kennedy Jr.) support for Trump is a betrayal of our father and family ideals," he wrote in a post on social media. It's a sad ending to a sad story.'
However, Kennedy Jr.'s wife, former HBO star Cheryl Hines, supported her husband's decision to withdraw from the election. However, he did not comment on support for Trump.
