India's richest man Gautam Adani replaces Mukesh Ambani

Gautam Adani and his family have overtaken Mukesh Ambani to become India's richest man with a wealth of Rs 11.6 lakh crore. The 'Hurun India Rich List 2024' was released on Thursday (August 29). Adani, ranked fourth in 2020, has come out on top.


Gautam Adani and family topped this year's ranking after the Hindenburg allegations, Hurun Rich List said. Assets have increased by 95 percent compared to last year. Their total income has reached 11.6 lakh crore rupees. Ambani is second in the list with assets worth Rs 10.14 lakh crore.

According to an NDTV report, share prices in all Adani group companies have risen significantly in the last one year. For example, shares in Adani Ports rose by 98 percent. Apart from this, share prices of Adani Energy, Adani Gas, Adani Transmission and Adani Power rose by an average of 76 percent.

India is emerging as 'Asia's wealth creation machine', says Anas Rahman, founder and chief researcher at Hurun India. The number of billionaires in India increased by 29 percent. On the other hand, in China, this number has decreased by 25 percent.

India's third richest man is Shiv Nadar and his family, head of HCL Technologies. Their assets amount to 3.14 lakh crore rupees. Cyrus S Poonwalla of Serum Institute of India and his family are in fourth place. Their assets amount to 2.89 lakh crore rupees. And Dilip Sanghvir of Sun Pharmaceuticals is at the fifth place in this list. His and his family's assets amount to Rs 2.49 lakh crore.

On the other hand, according to a report by Times of India, the number of billionaires in India has exceeded the previous record of 334 people.
