Hezbollah attack shows Israel is losing deterrence: Iran
Iran has commented that the attack by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has shown that Israel has lost its deterrence and that the strategic balance in the region has shifted against Israel.
Iran said this after Hezbollah attacked Israel on Monday. On Sunday morning, Hezbollah fired hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel. Meanwhile, Israel's military said it had carried out about 100 militant airstrikes in Lebanon to prevent a major attack.
It was one of the biggest attacks in more than 10 years of border fighting. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani wrote in X, "Despite the full support of countries like the United States, Israel has not been able to determine the time and place for a limited and planned response to the Axis powers of resistance. Israel has lost its immunity.”
Kanani also writes that Israel must now defend itself within the occupied territories and that the strategic balance is now undergoing a fundamental shift in Israel's favor.
Since the start of the war in Gaza, the risk of conflict on the border has increased. If the war somehow escalates, Hezbollah backer Iran and Israel's main ally, the United States, risk getting involved.
