Australia has started making missiles
Australia on Thursday unveiled a $570 million contract to build missiles domestically. The country has begun developing missiles to boost its military capabilities amid a regional arms race. Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy has announced a deal to develop the Joint Naval and Airborne Mission (JSM) missile at a plant north of Sydney. The factory will later this year produce anti-ship cruise missiles and JSMs that can be fitted to the latest F-35 aircraft. "This will underpin our investment in advanced, high-tech manufacturing industries and the development of our sovereign defense industry," Conroy said. A defense official told news agency AFP that the factory will start production in 2027 and will be able to produce 100 missiles a year. Both missiles are manufactured by Norway's Kongsberg. AFP.
